Do you feel tired all the time? Are you prone to muscle cramps and headaches? Do you constantly feel bloated? Believe it or not, but these are all signs that you aren’t drinking enough water! I bet it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to hear that water is super important for you health. The human body is about 70% water, so why not give it what it wants??
I get it…water might not be the most appealing drink of choice. However, it’s important to get into the habit of making it your most consumed beverage. There are so many different studies and websites out there all telling us conflicting information as far as how much water we need a day. Now I’m no scientist, but I like to tell people to shoot for half of their body weight in ounces. That’s right! That’s means if you weight 150lbs you need about 75oz of water a day! Or if you weight 200lbs, then you need about 100oz of water a day!
Okay now I bet you’re thinking…”easier said than done.” I get it! There are days that even I struggle to get enough water. But here are some of my favorite tips for helping my clients drink more water:
Tip #1:
Buy a refillable water bottle. Preferably one that’s large, and at least 32oz. This way you can easily keep track of how much you’ve consumed so far. So buy a bottle, and calculate exactly how many you need to drink to hit your total for the day. The one in this picture is 75oz and I love it! You can get one for yourself here.
Tip #2:
Use a cup/bottle with a straw. Seriously, just hear me out. You are much more likely to drink more water if your bottle has a straw in it. Unscrewing a cap just slows you down. If water already isn’t your favorite beverage, we need to at least make it convenient for you.
Tip #3:
Use fruit to liven up your water! My personal favorite is fresh lemon, but cucumber, lime, or mint are also delicious! You can even use frozen berries as flavored ice cubes!
Tip #4:
If you really need some an extra nudge, download a water tracking app for your phone. My personal favorite is the Water Alert app, which allows you to create silent reminders on your phone to alert you to drink more water. Whether you need a reminder every 2 hours, or every 30 minutes, this app has you covered!
Tip #5:
Get a smart water bottle! I have the Hidrate bottle and I love it! It lights up to remind you to drink water. Plus it adjusts your daily water goal according to your activity level, gender, and climate! How neat is that?!
